- A herding family's
winter camp
- This is the winter camp
of a neighboring herder family. Many of the people in our area winter
in these small, white buildings.
- Visiting neighbors
- This old Kazak couple
live just to the west of our camp. They are sweet, generous people.
- Returning from a night
ride
- We had been out late
visiting a family in the next valley. It was in the twenties F when we
returned that night.
- Morning meditation
- Here Scott is pictured
sitting on a hill side early one morning, reading and watching the herd.
- Combing goats in spring
- Goat
hair is an important source of income for herding families. We comb
every spring and sell the hair for as much as $15USD a pound.
- Branding colts
- Early each fall new-born
horses and those recently acquired are branded.
